VICTORY FOR RCV

Ranked Choice Voting has been a huge success in Minnetonka

By passing Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) in 2020, Minnetonka voters got rid of expensive city primaries where only 5% of voters participated, and combined two rounds of voting into a single “instant runoff” election in November, when turnout is higher and more representative of the community.

Minnetonka’s first RCV elections held in 2021 were a huge success:

✔️ Voters had more choices, the most candidates ever for a Minnetonka City Council election;

✔️ Voter turnout increased dramatically, up more than 50% than the average since 1985;

✔️ All winning candidates earned a majority in a single cost-effective election.

Ranked Choice Voting pushes candidates to speak to all voters and helps ensure that all voices are heard. It makes our democracy stronger. That’s why I’ve been a proud supporter of RCV for many years.
— Governor Tim Walz
Ranked Choice Voting gives communities and ideas that are normally ignored a fighting chance. Our democracies are healthier when all communities are at the table, and that’s why I support RCV.
— Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan

Just three years ago, Minnetonka voters approved Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) which made our local elections more representative, inclusive and efficient.

This year, RCV opponents attempted to roll it all back by forcing voters to vote on a ballot measure to repeal RCV — despite the huge success of our first RCV election in 2021.

But we voted NO on repeal because we believe in giving Minnetonka voters greater choice, voice and power in our elections. And we won!
